Go Blades Go!

So Jonny's band was supposed to play in Regina on Friday but because the roads really sucked they ended up not going. This turned out to be really great. Jonny and I spent the whole day together. We became mall rats for the day but it was nice just to hang out together. Friday night we went with Torry to see Stomp the Yard. Everybody warned us against it because the story line was just like You Got Served - um, hello, you don't go to a movie like that for the story line or the acting, you go for the dancing (which was better in You Got Served).

Saturday night was the best night we've had in a long time. We took Alanna to a Saskatoon Blades game! Now while I'm not the biggest hockey fan I really enjoy going to any live sporting event. The best part really was watching Alanna.

The first period made it really easy to get into the game. Saskatoon scored three goals and there were two fights all in about 15 minutes. We told Alanna that it is only okay to fight in hockey, and only if you are a "real" hockey player. This made fer comfortable to stand up and yell "fight, fight, fight" at the appropriate times. Her favorite part was the penalty box. She loved the idea that these adults got a time out for doing bad things just like she does.

On the way home she said "this was the best family day in the whole part of my life"! Made us feel like parents of the year. She was also amazed that the Blades won 5 to 1, she says "boy the Americans must REALLY suck"!

The photographer for Jonny's band is also the photographer for the Blades. We were sitting up in the nose bleed section but he was up in the rafters and took a picture of us from there so that we would have a little momento of the evening.
In other news after Heroes last night (which by the way was an excellent episode) a new series premiered called "The Black Donnelly's". It's about five twenty something Irish-American boys who are involved in mod like activity. It looks pretty good. Normally I only commit myself to one tv series but I figure if it's going to be on right after Heroes it is okay to get involved in this one as well.

Off to chat n play now - catch you on the flip side (I wonder who ever invented that saying, it's really quite dumb)

Fire Resides Takes the Stage

This is really just a blog to brag about my family.

Last night I went to the Fire Resides concert (the where opening for a UK band called Johnny Truent but for all intents and purposes to me it was the Fire Resides concert). It was at Walker's nightclub, which is a real dive, I must say. It was an all ages event so it was filled with teens. I have discovered two things, teenagers are weird and they stink. There was two little table fans on top of two speakers attempting to circulate air. All it was doing was creating a gontlet of BO. I have never seen so many pencil pants in my whole life and I have decided that they do not look good on anybody. Despite all the things wrong with the location and the people there I must say I really enjoyed myself. Fire Resides was great, I really like watching Jonny on stage, reminds me of why I married him. :)
This is the best pic I could get of the band as a whole. Everybody did really well. It was Jeremy's first time playing with them and I thought he did a great job.

They guys were supposed to play in Regina tonight but because of the stupid highways closing down they were unable to go. It really sucks. Jonny really wanted me to come with them and wouldn't shut up about it. So Torry and I worked out a plan, because Jonny, Phil and Steve were going to leave at noon and Torry, Dave and Jeremy to follow at five I was going to jump in with Torry's group and surprise Jonny. Needless to say the master plan was unable to be fulfilled. Too bad, he would have been sooooo happy.

Okay on to my favorite topic, my babies. I just have to say that Alanna is the best big sister in the whole world. She is such a big help with Emerie.

Okay, can you say bedhead?

Family Weekend

So this weekend was the first ever "family" weekend. I must say we had a pretty good weekend. Alanna was gone to Melfort for the weekend but she was home from school the whole week before so we got to hang out. On Friday I brought the girls sledding at the Cardinal Leger hill. It was so much fun. Jenna and her kids and my sister Kellyn and her kids came out as well. They had so much fun. It was funny to watch Emerie crawling around the top of the hill, she looked like a little cartoon character.

Yesterday was Ava's 2nd birthday (this is my sister's baby for those who don't know). So we had a little shindig at my mom's house for her. Alanna was pretty excited that she got to make it back in time for the party.

You see the gigantic cake, there was like 8 of us there, three of which were babies. So we brought half of that cake home with us because they couldn't eat all of it. Jonny brought it to work with him today and there is still a bunch that will be coming back home with him. It's a good thing I like cake.
Jonny, Ronnie, and I took the kids sledding after the party as well. We also brought my little cousin Kooper. He just turned 3 and he is the tiniest little thing. And sooo sweet. He was so excited. I went down the hill with Alanna and our sled got turned around so we were going backwards and I could see Kooper jumping up and down, he looked like a little jumping bean. Everytime he jumped his knees just about touched his chin.

Today was chat n' play day. This is where mommies get together for coffee at the church and the kids get to play with eachother. I got told twice today, for the first time ever, that Emerie looks like me. This excites me greatly. This is a picture of Emerie and Terran playing in the ball pit together. How cute!

I had to add this picture of Emerie. She fell asleep on me on Sunday so Gina took a picture of us. The camera ended up waking her up and she shot the dirtiest look at Gina afterwards. Pretty funny if you ask me.

Smells Like Spring

It feels like such a long time since I've blogged about anything.

I had a lot to say in mind but it now seems as though I am drawing a blank. I guess to start with today and work my way back would be a start. Today it smells like spring outside today. Oh how I love that smell. It smells different outside, it smells different in the Jeep, and it is so nice to get that musty smell out of the house by opening the windows.

Valentine's Day was yesterday. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's pictures and hearing their stories and what not, but sadly the only thing I did yesterday was babysit during choir practice at the church.

We have been doing a lot of visiting lately. It seems like almost every night we have either been out or had someone else over. Friday after choir we went to BP's with Torry and Hirem. Hirem is a riot. I'm mad at Torry - he knows why ;)(this is just a side note and has nothing to do with us going out with him). Anyway, Saturday we invited Phil over and told him to bring however he was hanging with to come as well - 9 youth later we had a party on our hands. We played Taboo, it was pretty funny. Torry came over that night as well. Jeremy stayed at our place over the weekend - which is fine by me because he kept bringing miscellaneous Tim Horton's treats. Jenn's birthday party was on Sunday evening and we had the best cake ever. I have decided that Jenn will make cake for all major functions in the future - I have yet to clear this with her, I'm sure her cake was no trouble at all though.

I'm really just rambling now - I don't have anything in particular to blog about - just playing catch up I guess. I hope everyone is doing well out there in blogger land - good night.

Feb 7 Part 2

I saw something on the news at noon and it has concerned me enough that I just need to get a few things off my chest. Please be warned that I am expressing my opinion in the following paragraphs, which is dangerous all on its own.

A baby girl was wrapped in a towel and a sleeping bag and abandoned on someone's back doorstep in the north end of the city this week. This baby was only a few hours old. So new in fact that it still had the umbilical cord still attached to her. On the day that this baby was left outside in the temp was -29 (-39 with windchill). Luckily she was found only after being outside for what they suspect was 15 minutes or so. Thankfully baby Jane Doe (as she is referred as) is in perfect health and it is now being decided on where she will be placed for care.

The reports that I have read have been very sympathetic to the mother in saying that she was young and confused, etc. She is being given the opportunity to go to court and possibly have the child placed back in her care.

Ummm HELLO!!!! First of all the mother is 18 years old. Is that not legally an adult? I was 17 when I had Alanna and I had enough sense to know that if I didn't know what to do with a baby I could still go to the hospital and then set the baby up for adoption. Even in the delirious moments you have after giving birth that I know every mother has had are you confused enough to put your baby on someone's doorstep. Obviously there is something seriously wrong with this poor young lady. It is my opinion that she is not in a proper state of mind where she is able to care for another life. I mean, how many chances does someone get when it comes to putting the life of a defenseless human being in their care before they end up killing or seriously damaging the poor thing.

Here's what gets me. Today on the news a survey was taken on whether the parents should face criminal charges and only 14% of Saskatchewan's said that there should be. What is wrong with you people who participated in this survey?
Canadian Law states:
Every one who unlawfully abandons or exposes a child who is under the age of ten years, so that its life is or is likely to be endangered or its health is or is likely to be permanently injured, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.

Okay, let's play devil's advocate and say that she had a lapse in judgement and is really a great person and just didn't have anywhere to turn and she really felt as if this was the best thing for the baby. Maybe she even knew the people who lived in the house where she dropped the baby off and knew that they would take care of the baby or at least know what to do. She still did the wrong thing. Even if it was a huge mistake, it was still a criminal mistake. If someone gets plastered and makes the stupid decision to drive and then hits someone, even though it was a stupid mistake do the not deserve to go to jail? I think so. There still needs to be consequences to her actions and I don't think that a fine or community service is sufficient (isnt' that for vandelism or something). And by making the claim that maybe she didn't know any better just doesn't cut it for me. Sorry.

Hum Drum

I feel like I have disappeared completely. I haven't really left my house in a week. I haven't talked to anybody. Am I a little stir crazy? You betcha! This past week has been sooooo long. Everybody in my house has been sick. I had it really bad last week and now it seems to be just the kids. Jonny had a little bout over the weekend. Plus for some reason our car will start at night but not in the morning so Jonny has been taking my Jeep so I haven't had a vehicle to go anywhere during the day.

Things that I have discovered in the past week:
- I get high on Dayquill
- Dexter is amazing
- I have lost 4lbs going to Curves
- If you really need some quality time with the fam everyone should get sick

There is a couple of things coming up in the next week so I am looking forward to being out of my house. Maybe I will have more to blog about next time.
